Monetizing Drupal at DrupalCon San Francisco

By dave - Posted on 17 April 2010

I moderated a panel at Drupalcon 2010 San Francisco. The panel was called Monetizing Drupal, and it was Monday from 3pm to 4pm in 306 Trellon.

The Topic

We're going to touch on how to move from a pure Drupal consultancy to offering products and services.

The Panelists

  • Chris Shattuck of Build A Module
  • Stephanie Pakrul of Top Notch Themes
  • Michael Anello of DrupalEasy
  • Salim Lakhani of WebEnabled

The Summary

Each panelist started out by describing their business, the services they provide, and how they got started.

  • Chris stated Build A Module to provide easy training videos to newbie Drupal developers and even non-developers who want to learn more about Drupal.
  • Stephanie started Top Notch Themes as a response to clients who wanted a good-looking theme, but didn't have the budget for full-on custom development.
  • Michael started DrupalEasy to help spread adoption of Drupal.
  • Salim started WebEnabled to help developers manage their Drupal installations, after running into many of the same issues while running his own small Drupal shop.

Thanks to the panelists and all our attendees, many of whom asked thoughtful questions before the panel concluded. I wish we were able to get to all of them!
